Remember when we stepped into 2024 with so much hope, armed with dreams, resolutions, and a to-do list that made us feel unstoppable? How’s that going for you? Did you tick off all the boxes?
Some of us ticked off every item on that list, and to you, we say CONGRATULATIONS! You’ve worked hard, and your achievements are a testament to your dedication.
But let’s be real, life isn’t always a smooth ride. There were times when we all stumbled in the year, faced setbacks, and had to pivot our plans. Maybe you didn’t conquer the world this year, but you might have learned a new skill, started a side hustle, or simply become a better version of yourself. There’s always another chance to keep going, growing, and dreaming. Surviving is a win. Trying again is a win.
Celebrating 2024 Milestones
Despite the hurdles, this year was extraordinary in so many ways:
- We expanded Rainbow Academy to West Africa, welcoming participants from Ghana, Liberia, and The Gambia.
- Overcame significant challenges, including attacks on our community and threats to BAF staff and scholars. Yet, we remain firm in our commitment to our community.
- Through webinars, social media campaigns, and blog posts, we reached thousands, inspiring conversations on human rights, personal growth, media engagement, and LGBTQ+ visibility.
- Launched the ongoing Rainbow Academy 2024 Cohort, with 27 scholars actively engaging in transformative learning experiences.
- Our Executive Director, Bisi Alimi, was honored with the Attitude Pride Awards, a testament to the power of representation.
We launched the Pathways of Religious Inclusion Program, starting with a groundbreaking research survey. Stay tuned for the full report coming soon!
Looking Ahead
The work isn’t done.
As we step into 2025, we aim to build on this year’s success with renewed energy and focus. Here is what is next:
- Publishing the Pathways Report. Our findings on religious inclusion will provide actionable insights for fostering dialogue and understanding.
- Improving the Rainbow Academy program by focusing on better support for scholars, with stronger mentorship and more meaningful training opportunities.
- Advancing advocacy efforts, drawing inspiration from global milestones like Thailand legalizing same-sex marriage, and intensifying our push for legal and social reforms in Nigeria.
- Strengthening partnerships to amplify our impact locally and globally.
- Navigating leadership transitions as Bisi Alimi steps down as Executive Director.
